Project Controls Engineer

COMPANY LOCATION:West Regional Center - Olympia, WA
Job Responsibilities:
  • Implement company standard project controls processes and procedures.  May include training project team members on understanding principles of project controls as well as use of tools
  • Review projects to evaluate cost and schedule status; May require assisting project with process
  • Evaluate project change order status for prime contract.  
  • Evaluate project subcontract management process
  • Evaluate project-based document control process
  • Evaluate physical progress monitoring
  • Assist in initial project set-up, short-term planning and overall project scheduling duties
  • Assist with troubleshooting of projects
Job Qualifications:
  • 5 - 10 years in construction industry, preferably in rail transportation industry
  • Thorough knowledge of project management practices which includes understanding contracts, planning and scheduling, cost control, earned value and change management
  • Strong customer service orientation - experience with public and private clients
  • Understanding of contracts (prime and subcontract), change management, cost control fundamentals
  • Scheduling experience: Short and long-term
  • Working knowledge of the following programs and applications:
    • P6
    • Microsoft Project
    • Contract Manager
    • JDE
    • Microsoft Office
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Highly self-motivated
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proven analytical and creative problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Strong organization and interpersonal skills
Physical/Travel/Attendance Requirements
  • Willing to travel >75% throughout US and Canada, ability to travel cross-border 
  • Overtime may be required to meet project deadlines
  • Works in an office and job-site enviroments
  • Frequently sits for long periods of time
  • Frequently speaks, reads, writes and uses a computer keyboard
  • May require occasional standing, walking, lifting, stooping or bending.
