Job Responsibilities:

We are seeking an Equipment Director to lead in the strategic management, procurement, preventative maintenance, repair/replacement, safety assurance and enforcement of all equipment activities in the United States and Canada for a Leading Railroad Construction Provider. The Equipment Director will be the primary equipment contact for support and leadership for all operations.  This role is cross functional and requires a high level of collaboration and influence across multiple departments and stakeholders. 

The Equipment Director will be responsible for selecting and maintaining the company’s fleet of commercial equipment to support construction activities while managing the records, licenses, inspections, warranties, and service agreements within the budget.  This position will report directly to the Director of Procurement and Strategic Planning.

The successful candidate will have significant experience in equipment management, operations, logistics and using software programs to monitor the fleet and the inventory. The candidate should match the Required Skills and Qualifications section that includes significant experience in the construction industry. 

Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

Equipment Management:

  • Develop and implement strategies to build and maintain an effective and sustainable equipment program that will adhere to to safety, compliance, regulations and corporate policies
  • Ensure safe and reliable equipment is available to meet operational requirements
  • Inspects facilities to determine proper inventory, utilization, maintenance, and maximize equipment profitability and utilization
  • Manage and direct effective and timely preventative, maintenance and repair programs
  • Measure and report on the overall effectiveness of the department, its equipment goals, objectives, and programs on a quarterly basis
  • Manage existing and develop new vendor relationships
  • Negotiate contracts, purchase agreements and maintenance service agreements for the Corporation’s equipment through continuous pricing, service and other improvements
  • Participate in the estimating and bid process for determining equipment needs and costs of prospective projects
  • Establish short and long term agreements when necessary to lock in pricing and services for an agreed duration
  • Monitor company policies for equipment use
  • Assist in the establishment and maintenance of capitalized equipment records and procedures, for all equipment owned by the Company
  • Assist in the development of yard and equipment inventory procedures and reports
  • Oversee supplier warranty claims submission and payment
  • Manage the Equipment Department annual budget

 

Job Qualifications:
  • This position can sit in any RailWorks office in the US or Canada. Must be able to travel 30-40% and have flexible schedule (nights/weekends) to support business demands as they arise
  • Bachelors degree in Construction, Engineering, or related field OR minimum of 10 years’ experience in the heavy construction equipment management field
  • Must possess practical knowledge of the function, operation, financial modeling and decision making and the maintenance and upkeep of construction equipment
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Negotiation experience
  • Exceptionally organized, meticulous, and detail oriented
  • Proven ability to thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments
  • High sense of urgency and deadline driven
  • Skilled in adapting to requirements of numerous, constantly changing demands
  • Self-starter with excellent problem solving and analytical skills

  • Must be able to multi-task and possess strong computer skills
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Must be a team player with a positive attitude
  • Works well under pressure and strict deadlines, with constant re-prioritization of duties
